How is it possible to make money online with blogs and websites without money? It's simple to use a free Blogger blog to build a ten page website with advertising that will earn residual income. Known as "bum marketing", there are people who have created literally hundreds of these blogs, and are reaping in the profits every day.
Decide what topic to cover. If it is a favorite topic, then writing original material may not be difficult. This is obviously the best way to go, but there are also many free sources online for articles that can be used to populate the space.
Building The Site
The first step is to open a Blogger account. The best way to do this is to open a Gmail account in the name of the blog, or as close as possible.
Go to Blogger and create a blog. For now, use the Minima template, which is default.
Following the instructions in "How to Make Blogger Look Professional", set up your domain and your template before you add any content.
Buying a Domain Name
Dot info (.info) names from GoDaddy are very cheap, usually less than $1, and buying 5 gives you free domain privacy. When choosing a name, be sure the dot com is available before buying the dot info. Holding a domain in the dot info name for a while is a good way to see if it is worth the investment in a dot com name. If traffic and earnings are good, it is usually simple to go back and buy the dot com.
Adding Pages
Blogger does not have a "pages" feature, but there are two ways to create static pages that can be linked to from the front page.
In "settings", only allow one post on the front page. This will be the template or "home" page, so set it up in a way that makes it simple to navigate to other pages within the site. If your template has tabs, name one "Home" and use the default URL for the blog. If there are no tabs, put "Home" as your first link on your site map, which will be your labels widget renamed.
Create a separate post for each "page" and using the "options" on the bottom of the post, backdate it to something long ago, even a couple of years. This will keep it buried so that it will only be accessible through a link.
Another way to set up pages is with sub-blogs. Blogger allows you to create many sub-blogs under one blog. These can be set up as sub-domains of your main domain, with masking so that the URL will be the subdomain name.
Getting Content for the Site
Writing original material is best, but free material from the best article directories, such as Ezine, is perfectly acceptable. There are many free article sites that can be found online.
The only drawback to using free articles is that they also appear in dozens of other places on the web. Never use a free article as your homepage content. Homepage content must be unique to get good ranking in the search engines.
If funds are available, articles can be bought online through a number of sources for as little as $1, but the more you can spend, the better material you will receive. Sites like Associated Content and eHow allow writers to sell reprint rights to their articles, but not all article sites do. It's always best to ask.
Getting Traffic to the Site
The first thing to do is register the site with the major search engines. Google, Yahoo, Ask, and others all have pages for registration, and there are some sites that will register the site with several minor engines for free in exchange for a link on the site homepage.
Social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, Stumbleupon, and Digg are also great ways to effectively promote your website.
It takes very little effort to set up a free ten page website using Blogger and free articles, and adding additional material later is a matter of a few minutes at a time. These sites have been proven to be a great way to earn passive income online without spending a fortune on hosting, domain names, and content.
